kelly borisTo say that Bozza was a little bit excited to have met Kelly Brook at the launch of his London Skyride event would be something of an understatement.

Firstly, he posted this picture on his Twitter site of himself and the actress/model (who appears to have ridden to the launch directly from the 1950s).

He then posted the phrase (which I love, in a teenage crush sort of a way) “Kelly is coming to London Skyride too…” SWALK. (I’ve added that last bit, but you get my drift.)

We’ve talked about these Skyrides before and this latest one takes place on 20th September allowing cyclists the chance to pedal through London without having to worry about the traffic.  And if you’re undecided about participating, Kelly will be there, which means you may well also enjoy the spectacle of BoJo salivating over the pavement.

The Greasy Pole

10 Downing Street A recent article in the Daily Mail has made the suggestion that Boris’ election as Mayor of London might be part of a wider plan by the blonde-haired loon to climb the greasy pole all the way to Number Ten.

The article points to Bozza’s recent publicity and how desperate the glamour magazines are to feature BoJo as their cover star.  Not only will he appear on the cover of Elle but apparently Tatler, Hello! and Vogue are all vying for the sleek, boyish Mayor to appear on their cover.

Bozza’s biographer, Andrew Gimson, said Boris went for the mayoral job as “a grand, outflanking manoeuvre… Just as the Mayor of Paris can ascend from the Hotel de Ville to the Elysee Palace, perhaps Boris could pioneer a new route from City Hall to Downing Street.”

Imagine the fun.

Pushing Boris over the Hedge

Boris was in Brussels yesterday attempting to fight new EU plans to regulate hedge funds and private equity forms which the Mayor believes will have a hugely damaging effect on both London and the EU.

Twitter at 9am yesterday morning: “On my way to Brussels to stop EU plans that will cost London & UK jobs and billions in tax.”

Makes him sound a bit like some sort of secret agent or superhero, doesn’t it?

Twitter at 1pm: “Good meeting with British MEPs. All parties agreed this damaging EU directive must be changed.”

Bozza said: “We came here in peace in a constructive way to set out that, if we get this directive wrong, it risks damaging not just London but the whole of the EU. People understand that the financial services industry has a vital job to do and we want to keep them in Europe. There is no suggestion or evidence that investment funds were in any way to blame for the financial crisis and it is difficult to see the justification for this level of regulation.?

Although SuperBoJo’s flying visit was broadly welcomed by British MEPs, he might have a job on to stop the plans going through. Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, the former Danish prime minister who is now leader of the Party of European Socialists, said: “Boris Johnson is out of touch with reality if he thinks he can water down this legislation. Instead of getting Mayor Johnson to lobby on their behalf, the City of London should be very satisfied they have escaped so lightly. He says hedge funds and private equity played no role in the financial crisis, but the point is to avoid future crises. In any case, hedge funds and private equity did play a major role in the explosion of excessive debt, which was at the heart of the crisis.?

Still, Boris was cheered by his “very friendly” and “warm” meeting with Charlie McCreevy from Father Ted [er, no. He's the EU Commissioner in charge of financial services - Boriswatch Ed] who has “encouraged us to continue to play our part in this process and I fully intend to do so.” (Boris, not us, obv.)

Blooming Elle

boris elle

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of London Fashion Week, the fashion magazine Elle has created a special edition of their November issue featuring our very own Boris on the front cover.

As well as a special edition of the publication featuring BoJo on the cover (in place of fellow cricket aficionado Lily Allen), the Mayor has also written the November 2009 issue Ed’s letter.

Bozza worked with Elle‘s editor in chief Lorraine Candy on the project to celebrate 25 years of London Fashion week,  a unique collaboration between 25 of fashion’s biggest names and the magazine to design 25 posters that will be displayed on London’s tube system this month, “Elle on the Underground.”

We at Boriswatch Towers often find it’s Elle on the underground, particularly if the air conditioning is knackered…..
