Davos 2009 – Boris bigs up London

January 30, 2009

davos2009Boris has apparently gone down a storm at the Davos 2009 World Economic Forum. His Mayordom of London seems popular with business leaders in the city. According to the Independent’s Davos Diary, he has declared himself “one of the last defenders of the free market system left in politics”.  He pointed out that “a year ago a copy of the Evening Standard cost 50p. Today you could buy the whole thing for the same price, complete with 300 journalists”. Boris headed back down to Davos in the only proper way – by toboggan – at terrifying speed – before signing off with Reuters “… everybody in Davos, once they finish this massive negotiation of egos, this complete vanity, should come to London. It’s considerably cheaper and considerably warmer.”

Boris: I’m a nightmare Tory pirate

January 26, 2009

borismosAn entertaining article showed up in the Mail on Sunday yesterday – rare in that it actually talks to Boris, rather than commenting without getting information from the horse’s mouth. Boris talks about how it’s going, sex, The Clash and underwear – although sadly not any mention of Boriswatch thongs in the article.

Happily, there are several choice quotes in the article, which have been added to the Quotes page.

Ode to Boris Johnson

January 24, 2009

Every so often, a keen Boriswatcher spots a tribute to Boris that has escaped our attention. Reader vicky2love discovered the following charming poem dedicated to Boris on Youtube. Admittedly, you may have to make your own mind up whether it’s pro- or anti-Bozza, but it’s definitely amusing.

Kid British bump into Boris

January 21, 2009

Kid BritishMusic website NME reporting yesterday that Boris was approached in the street by new band Kid British, who were busking around the capital to promote their new EP. Today, the NME shows the band explaining what happened, and how Boris listened to their music for a whle before policemen moved them along. What Boris made of the band is not reported, although Boriswatch can imagine what was probably going through his mind: “Good grief, are they out to get me? Oh, they’re playing music, better show some interest, tum te tum te tum. Can I go now?”. Or words to that effect…

Boriswatch TV

January 13, 2009

Boriswatch is nothing if not generous with the site’s promotion to the masses. We’ve done a Boriswatch video, appeared on the BBC and Sky, enabled Boriscards to be sent around the web, set up a Boriswatch Facebook group, made t-shirts and thongs and generally said yes to everything. Well, not everything.

And now, dear readers, Boriswatch has today been broadcast on BBC London, who pitched the site against the recently started Boriswatch.co.uk, a site less about accountability  – as it states – and more about getting Mayor Ken back. I came out of the dark-roomed interview blinded by the lights and thinking of all the things I should have said instead. There was a lot more to the interview, but I suppose my staunch defence of Mayor Boris will have to stay on the cutting room floor…

So, here it is:

Boris gets done by own Congestion Charge

January 9, 2009

congestioncharging-3001Looks like even the Mayor of London is not excluded from the road charging in central London. The Big Bozza managed to completely forget to pay the charge, becoming – in his own words – a “victim to the wretched system”. £60 later, Boris is keen to swicth the payment to an account-based system, one that even he cannot forget…
