Reinventing the wheel

December 31, 2007

An email has flooded in to Boriswatch Towers, asking why the site isn’t covering every aspect of Boris’s Mayoral viewpoints, policy decisions and so on.
Well, I gave it a go. In fact, I wrote several pieces that could have appeared on Boriswatch, listing all the happenings, occurances and occasions that had happened in the few days since the previous posting. But then it dawned on me that I was reinventing the wheel! There are full-time bloggers that are covering most of the announcements with stonking alacrity, so much so that my reference to them hours later seemed more of an afterthought.
Sure, Boriswatch will report and comment on the big Boris news of the moment. Hell, it’s been a forfront of Boris news since the day it was conceived over a hot chocolate, late one frosty afternoon. It will still cover the quirky stories, it will still be a fine source of news on all things Boris. And T-Shirts, mugs and thongs! But with the Mayoral campaign just about to kick off, make sure you also browse the following fine sites for your political punditry:

www.mayorwatch.co.uk
www.westmonster.com
ConservativeHome

So, a very happy New Year to all Boriswatch readers – and see you in 2008, Boris’s Big Year!

Oborne despairs

December 28, 2007

Arch Conservative Peter Oborne has written a despairing column in the Daily Mail, criticising Boris’s media impotence thus far in the Mayoral campaign.

It’s true, Boris has missed some great chances to attack Ken – but Boriswatch seems to recall Boris requesting a lack of campaigning until 2008. Like it or lump it, that’s more than likely the reason for the lack of action – perhaps we’ll have a fun-filled New Year when Boris packs it all in!

Going the whole hog

Sheep-PigIt is a homage? Farmer Tony York has christened his “sheep-pig” Boris, after our beloved Boris Johnson.

There’s not a lot more Boriswatch can say on this story.

Lynton Crosby hired for Mayoral bid

December 27, 2007

2008 will be Boris’s biggest year. There have been rumours that Boris, as ever, hasn’t had full focus of the main job in hand – but the Evening Standard reports the first sign that things are getting serious. Lynton Crosby, described as a “fine purveyor of the political dark arts”, has been enlisted to help with Boris’ mayoral campaign. This, of course, is a snub for Dan Ritterband, who has been moved sideways and will concentrate on strategy instead.
Boriswatch is rubbing its hands with glee. Roll on 2008, and Mayor Boris!

Smears against Bozza funded by Livingstone

December 12, 2007

The Evening Standard, ever an enemy of Ken Livingstone, has unearthed news that the racist smears against Boris in the summer were promoted by an organisation given huge amounts of cash by Mayor Livingstone. ConservativeHome says that Lee Jasper, Ken’s ideological buddy, was in cahoots with the organisations that smeared Boris and then received a load of money from Ken’s men. What a coincidence, wouldn’t you agree?

Black could get messy for Boris

Boris has always had a strange soft spot for Conrad Black. So much so that he has now given a character reference to judges presiding over Black’s prison sentence over in America – much to the chagrin of at least four Labour MPs who have tabled questions in the Commons about it, according the the BBC and Westmonster. A little risky, Boris?!

Boris is a secret Star Wars fan

December 10, 2007

An eager blogger has discovered that until recently Back Boris, the site that hosts Boris’s big for London Mayor, had a contact number at the bottom of the page. Nothing wrong in that, you might think – until you phoned it and got through to a Star Wars convention.
That was rectified, of course – but that didn’t stop Boris holding his Christmas Party at the Star Wars Exhibition in County Hell, the place he launched his Mayoral bid…

Paddick defends London single

December 5, 2007

It seems that every word the Big Bozza speaks is being pounced on by the other Mayoral contenders. Boris recently referenced Bridget Jones in his analysis of singledom in London. Brian Paddick immediately jumped on all sorts of verbal bandwagons, declaring his words “offensive” and “out of touch”.

Seems that the only way Mr Paddock can get headlines is to comment on Boris’s comments… Maybe he should get his Y-fronts out again?

Korean Newts and Accountants

A blogger backstage at the Accountancy Awards regales some pithy comments from Boris’s compering of the event. He manages to call Ken Livingstone a “gigantic newt”, before likening the mayor’s London free newspaper to “a sort of North Korean freesheet.” Say it like you mean it, Bozza!
