Boris and Katie, sitting in a tree

Boris Johnson has been backed from 20/1 to 8/1 with William Hill to become the next Mayor of London, according to The Online Bet – confirming all us Boriswatchers’ beliefs that he is the best man for the job. Another couple of weeks, and he’ll be favourite!
So, another day, another wait for Boris’s decision of whether to Mayor or not to Mayor. However, one columnist in The Guardian is going as far as suggesting Boris for President. The sky’s the limit…
Some cracking sleuthing by the blogging community today on Boris’s potential campaign. Order Order (Guy Fawkes blog) has some interesting titbits on the multiple domains being bought up with the words “boris” and “mayor” – with a lot of them being bought even before the rumour broke. Most of them bought by one man – do you know David Herskovic? It also mentions the Spectator article in which the magazine backs their former editor to the hilt. It even has a blog-based vote on the topic – Boris is clearly a popular man!
If anyone’s on Facebook (and let’s face it, who isn’t?!), there’s now an “I’m backing Boris” group, as well as a whole load more Boris-based groups to sign up to.
Elsewhere, the Telegraph invites comments to the question “Would you back Boris for Mayor of London?” – and the answer, essentially, is “damn right, with bells on.” Tory Radio is fully behind the idea of Mayor Boris.
So, what’s your view? A potentially great Mayor?
The Guardian reports that Boris is to stay in his Higher Education post in the Conservative party – that is, if he doens’t go for London Mayor…!
Astonishingly brilliant news reaches Boriswatch from the depths of the BBC – Boris is being considered for the position of London Mayor! This BBC article gives the detail – imagine the fun…!
UPDATE: Iain Dale reports: “Boris Johnson has just released a statement…
Being Mayor of London would be a fantastic job and anyone who loves London would want to consider the possibility very carefully. I want to stress that this idea did not come from David Cameron or from anyone in his office but I have, of course, been very struck by the number of people who have been urging me to run. In my case, there are huge obstacles – above all my commitment and responsibility to my constituency. It is hard to see how those difficulties could be overcome – but I am ruling nothing out.
So that’s a yes, then.
In the imminent reshuffle at the Tory HQ, Boris is coming 7th in the race to be party Chairman, according to ConservativeHome’s own poll. Sure, it’s not the top job, but Chairman Boris is more than adequate for the moment!
Still, though, it raises the concerning question of what will happoen to boris in the reshuffle. He’s been successful in keeping his nose dry in the last few months, and in the news coverage seems favourite to stay on as Shadow Minister for Higher Education. He’s certainly a student favourite…
