BorisShop has landed!

April 27, 2005

A while ago, resident Boriswatch reader John emailed me with a brainwave. He asked whether, in addition to the fine Chargrilled and Teemarto clothing already offered, there was ever going to be a Boriswatch shop. “Boriswatch is like a family to me,” he put, and after considerable blushing, I applied myself to the idea. I had thought of something similar a year ago, but lazily shied away from the effort.
But now, dear readers, I can furnish you with exciting news – the BorisShop is here! Find t-shirts, skinnies, mugs, mousemats, hoodies, and other exciting stuff, with three different designs in four different colours – all waiting for your delectation! If you have any suggestions for other goodies or other designs, let me know. I already have a few ideas myself…

The Blond

April 25, 2005

CNN – albeit via our own Robin Oakley – asks: Does Howard regret dumping the blond?. Assuming this is not referring to some under-reported sexual scandal involving the Tory leader, I think we all know the answer to that…

Johnson and Johnson

April 23, 2005

Following Boris’s visit to Teignbridge yesterday – covered on Newsnight last night – The Guardian reviews the downright entertaining visit: Johnson and Johnson: a family soap. Almost makes you wish you’d taken the day off work to be there…
UPDATE: The Sunday Times has another review of the day: “Cripes, it’s Boris’s dad!”.

Newsnight tailing Boris?

April 21, 2005

Rumour has reached Boriswatch that Newsnight has been following the Big Bozza around and may visit Teignbridge (the constituency which Boris’s dad is fighting for) with Boris tomorrow. Boriswatchers should keep their eyes peeled for a feature in the near future…
UPDATE: The result is on Newsnight tonight (Friday 22nd April), and there’s also a piece on the Teignbridge visit in the Daily Telegraph…

Stanley Johnson blogs too

April 19, 2005

A little birdie, who appears to be a regular reader of Boriswatch, has thrust a little missive in my electronic mailbag pointing out that Stanley Johnson, Boris’s dad, is writing for Channel 4’s election blog, and a fine read it is too…

Comedy Campaigning!

Your humble Boriswatch host has ben inundated with concerned readers – most of them expressing concern that “Boris has gone AWOL” and that they need “more Boris on our screens”. And I would admit that since last year we haven’t seen a lot of the comical, Woodhousian side of Boris. But now, thank God, I’ve read this spectacular article in The Times today – and I think we can safely assume he’s merely been lying low. This, ladies and gentlemen, is pure comedy Boris. He’s coming back – and not a moment too soon…

Working the turf while the coverage builds

April 18, 2005

While Boris is working the magic on his home turf of Henley, there are several people finding that its safe to come out from under the Mersey-soaked cloud that rained on Boris last year. For example, Online Recruitment magazine has just quoted a survey into the politician they would most want to work for their firm. Boris came a surprise second with 15%, behind the dour Gordon Brown – a firm thumbs up and a confirmation that Boriswatchers are spreading far and wide!
The Guardian has published a “2 minute interview” with Boris – “uncut and unedited”, which is just how we like Boris. In a supremely unedited moment, Boris is asked how he’d help make Michael Howard Prime Minister. “I’m straining every nerve to bring that about, ” he replies. “I really think it’s possible. Oh, someone’s just spilt some water. [To someone in the background] Are you all right?”
Six paragraphs into a Guardian article headed “You crazy rosbifs”, extracts from a new book show that – and this is no bad thing – Boris confuses the hell out of the French. “Some are predicting a rapid ascent to the top of the Conservative party”, says the article. Damn right, says Boriswatch…

Lunchtime Campaigning…

April 11, 2005

News reaches Boriswatch that even at Sunday lunch Boris has his mind on political matters. The Guardian asked him yesterday, “Are you campaigning today?”. Boris replied, “I’m having Sunday lunch with my family. I’m vigorously campaigning, inculcating my children in the benefits of a Tory government.” Boriswatchers, it’s time to get the dictionary out again…

And they’re off!

April 9, 2005

The election race is on – and so is the race to scrub any reference to
“MP” on all MP’s webpages. Boris’s official website is now fully
“candidate-compliant” – and to celebrate the fact Boris has posted a
website-only piece audaciously and compellingly comparing Zimbabwe’s
recent elections and the Birmingham electoral fraud. If Robert Mugabe
wants to get one over on Blair, he should read it immediately…
The Spectator has today launched its own Election section, which seems
to be an endorsement from its editor (which, as if you need reminding,
is Big Bozza himself) that weblogs are the way forward, in vogue and the new black. Or something.
In other news, my recent visit to Boris’s office spawned some hidden
treasures which I’ve now had the go ahead to publish! While I was
sitting on Boris plush green sofa, I took a couple of pictures and a
short video of the place with my camphone. Here, as the Daily Express put it last week,
is “one of the most sought-after offices in Westminster”:

Picture 1 – Picture 2 – Picture 3 – Picture 4 (including a nice closeup…)
Video (MP4 format I’m afraid – Quicktime will play it)
